In June 2008 Tony had another of his prints selected for the
prestigious London Salon of Photography -
that's two years in a row!

In February 2008 Tony was awarded a Highly Commended Ribbon
by the Surrey Photographic Association and had two of his Greek photographs
displayed at their biennial exhibition in Guildford, Surrey.

In 2007 Tony had one of his prints selected for the
prestigious London Salon of Photography which is
a great achievement!

He also had another print accepted for the
Royal Photographic Society's 150th International Print Exhibition.
2,200 entries from 33 countries were judged and Tony's was one of the 120 selected.
The exhibition continues to tour the UK at present.

Just before that one of his prints was exhibited at the
2007 Royal Photographic Society Members' Exhibition.

In 2007
Tony was awarded the Associateship Distinction with the Royal Photographic Society.
This is the second highest distinction with the society. His panel of 15 images
was highly praised by the judges and was retained by the RPS for teaching purposes
to show what a 'perfect panel' of photographs should look like!
This means that Tony can use the letters ARPS after his name. This follows on from his
successful Licentiateship assessment with the RPS in 2006.
His award winning panel of photographs of Greece was on display
at the Happy House Open House and can still be seen by appointment or by clicking here.

In 2007 Tony returned from another visit to India, this time meeting and
taking portraits of local people along with exploring patterns and textures.
Some of this work is shown on this website but a larger selection can be seen
on his external 'Flickr' web pages by clicking on 'Happy Bear' below:

In late 2007 he visited Venice and the some of the results from
that trip will be shown at the Open House, on the Flickr site
below and on this site later in the year.

About Tony Bowall ARPS
(A few events prior to the more recent news - so there may be some repetition!)

Tony Bowall ARPS

Tony Bowall is a Londoner from the deep South (Lewisham actually)
and has lived in Brighton for 18 years and has been taking photographs for 26 years.
Self-taught, he started photographic printing making Cibachrome prints from slides at the
Camerawork Studios in London’s Bethnal Green, then moved on to colour negative and
black and white printing. For the past six years all work has been digital but his
love of film returned for a while recently but all work is now digital.
He has a varied portfolio of Travel Photography, most noticably his minimalist and
colourful Greek work as well as work made in India and Italy.
He also lovesclose-up/macro and other images of flowers, many of which
have been taken in the Happy House Garden as well in Sussex and beyond.
Apart from flowers he likes to find beauty, humour and the absurd in life and is showing
some images from Greece, Italy, Egypt, Africa and India, as well as closer to home in
Hove and Brighton covering a number of the visually striking events that the City is famous for!

Sam the dog, whom Tony inherited when he met Helene - a fairly simple minded and obsessively affectionate
Bichon Frise (especially if you might have access to food - that's Sam, NOT Helene!) - has been a recent addition to the portfolio!
Tony has been interested in alternative philosophies for many years and has a number of calming images
of Buddhist figures which have been widely published. For more than 20 years Tony ran his own publishing and
design business and his photographs have been used for many cover designs for international Buddhist publications
and books as well as the ‘Viva Guide to Vegetarian Brighton’!
In the past his photography has been used in various shop displays in Sussex and
has a growing number of clients, both in the UK and Internationally, who enjoy and support his work.

In 2004 he decided to focus full-time on photographic projects and, following on from the Lewes Artists Group Exhibition of that year,
the opening of the ‘Happy House’ in May 2005 was one of his first major exhibitions.
Also during the 2005 Brighton Festival, work was exhibited in the Sanctuary Cafe in Hove
with Brighton and Hove Camera Club (BHCC).
In November 2005 he worked with Brighton and Hove Arts Council and two other members of the
BHCC on a project with Brighton's New Venture Theatre Company
which resulted in a joint exhibition held at The Grange in Rottingdean - and he was invited back to the
theatre to take press photographs of their annual Pantomime! (Oh yes he was!)
Tony also exhibited at the Happy House's Xmas Open House in May 2005, December 2005, May 2006.
More recent news can be found at the top of this page.

Tony is a member of Brighton and Hove Camera Club and has holds the
Associateship (ARPS) with the Royal Photographic Society.
